JOB SUMMARY

The Network Engineer will be responsible for performing high-level systems analysis, evaluation, design, integration, documentation, and implementation of very complex application that require a thorough knowledge of administrative and technical skills. Directs and participates in all phases of system development with emphasis on planning, analysis, evaluation, integration, testing and acceptance phases (IV&V and DT&E). Applies higher-level business or technical principles and methods to very difficult technical problems to arrive at automated engineering solution

• Provide daily operations and maintenance support for production firewalls, routers, switches, and load balancers in a multi-vendor environment according to established standard operating procedures, maintenance window restrictions, and security requirements and regulations.

• Provide daily operations and maintenance support for test lab firewalls, routers, switches, and load balancers.

• Maintain change management process flow, including updates to network diagrams, and other network and process documentation.

• Provide, as required, troubleshooting, service restoration, and security incident response support during regular business as well as during ‘off’ hours when required.

• Provide support for network moves, expansions, and changes, including planning, coordination with the user and technical communities, testing and staging, installation of network equipment into racks, hardware and software configuration of the equipment, and communication circuit provisioning support.

REQUIRED SKILL SET

• Ethernet concepts: duplex, vlans / broadcast domains, trunking, spanning tree.
• TCP/IP protocol suite: TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP
• IP address space management: subnets, supernets, aggregates, masking.
• Static routing concepts: direct routes, recursive routes
• IP Routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP
• Firewall technology: simple filtering, stateful inspection, application proxy); security zoning; network address translation
• Intrusion detection / prevention technology
• IPSec VPNs.
• Network ‘dial tone’ services: DNS, DHCP, NTP, SMTP, HTTP / HTTPS
• Network management protocols: SNMP v1, v2c, and v3; NetFlow

Specific hands-on experience with the following:

• CiscoWorks or similar tool.
• TACACS or RADIUS.
• Network routers and switches, including Cisco Catalyst 6500 and other Cisco IOS-based platforms.
• Network-based firewalls including at least two of the following: Cisco, Fortigate, Stonegate, Sidewinder.
• Network-based intrusion detection systems
• Remedy Action Request System, or a similar tool

EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline and 2 years of professional experience.
